I put this one on the back burner last night and had a re-listen this evening, yes, I was right, it is quite the mellow tune indeed. Sister Ivy is a Jazz Soul outfit from North Carolina with a nice and chilled out vibe going on, which gets my support.
The languid style of lead vocalist Rachel Waterhouse is very easy on the ear. Dark Magic is a very well balanced piece – these guys have a nice repport with one another – the Jazzy keyboard and the scattered drum patterns weave effortlessly together and at times, the track sounds like a ballad from a James Bond movie soundtrack (I think thats just my imagination) – Ramble aside, it’s worth a listen if you are sitting in for the evening with kettle boiled.
