A little bit of funk here from Drea Pizziconi and band. Her latest single ‘Let us Dance’ was premiered at the Campaign for Female Education 25 Gala honoring singer-songwriter Annie Lennox. The non-profit organization supports and invests in girls and women in the most impoverished areas in Sub-Saharan Africa. Pizziconi has kindly donated all 2019 profits raised from this track to the charity. That is worth the write up on it’s own. People doing good deeds should always be documented. I tip my hat.
The song itself is a really nicely put together jazzy funk efforts with brilliant instrumentation throughout from the Dap-Kings horns and also a nice verse from rapper Maimouna Youssef. Pizziconi is an avid activist who raises awareness about issues through the medium of music. She along with Grammy winning trumpeter & producer Keyon Harrold wrote ‘Running’ a track that’s subject matter was centred around human rights – the song featured vocals from Common and Gregory Porter and was praised by the likes of Billboard for it’s inspirational themes. I like people who dedicate themselves to evoke change. Good on ya.
