Some nice electronic grooves coming out of London tonight from Jacana People. I first heard this track at the beginning of last week, on first listen, I wasn’t too sure on it to be perfectly honest. There is certainly a lot going on in this one – loads of elements flying around together. Flora is a wash of beats, strings and distorted vocals rasping around for five minutes. I got a bit transfixed and after listening to the whole five minutes – decided ultimately that the whole thing just worked somehow.
I would be a firm listener of minimal downtempo electronic usually but found myself stuck in the blissful web of Jacana People‘s production. This single is part of a two part release campaign from the Londoner which also features ‘Fauna’ – a more modular and acidic release. Both singles together are a brilliant introduction to this talented musician’s bag of tricks. I am excited to hear what else he has up his sleeve.
