I’ve been staring at my laptop for 20 minutes now trying to figure out how to begin talking about this track, this one is something special.
This was one of those utterly brilliant moments where you hear something for the first time, and you just melt into it – there is something, buried amongst it all, that completely steals all your attention, and it’s rare but it’s great.
Let me introduce you to Mo Klé (otherwise known as René Grünenfelder), a Swiss singer-songwriter whose fundamental understanding of simplicity delivers only the most bare and beautiful tunes. He works solely with guitar, basic percussion, and his voice alone, utilising the negative space in music to create such truth and honesty within his work; and we’re talking the chills-down-your-spine type. His newest single The One was released a few days ago, and all I can say is if you don’t immediately go check it out, then it is absolutely your loss.
Starting with the instrumental, we have a brilliant combination of acoustic guitar handling the catchy repetitive bars, and the interjection of an electric guitar riff here and there; but not to steal the show, to be there just there enough to embellish the layers of this song and tie everything together oh-so nicely. Throw in a percussive base that elevates the sound immensely and creates that feeling of wanting to move your body about, and you have something great. Great however, turns into goosebumps when René comes in with the vocal. This man truly has such a unique voice that perfectly settles into the world of indie folk, and there’s not much more to say about it except that I haven’t stopped listening since I stumbled upon this song.
I’ll wrap it up there as we might have some more Mo Klé content coming your way pretty soon – very exciting stuff going on here at The Sniffer. Keep your eyes peeled, laters skaters
Mo Klé’s debut album ‘Paralell Worlds‘ will be released later this calender year.
