Hey hey y’all, Sienna back again with some fresh tunes for your hungry ears – and this week I’m on a massive soft indie hype, we’re all about upholding a chill tone, melodic vocals that sound like honey, and instrumentals bordering on electronic but keeping true to the low-key atmosphere. Welsh band New Wolves have just dropped their 6th single City Air since appearing on the scene in 2019 – and it’s been met with resounding love and appreciation for their delicate blend of sounds and overall ability to make music that you either want to get the hell up and dance to, or lay back and shut your eyes for an hour or so. Overall, it’s a beautifully put together tune that deserves all the listens you can muster.
When I hear this one, I see late nights in a big city, wet from recent rain and street lights reflecting all over, it’s everything from a Leonid Afremov artwork to a coming of age film that sticks with you. Good music isn’t hard to come by, but I think there’s something incredibly special about sounds that compliment and bring forth ideas of art from all medias, songs that feel like so much more than a song – and that’s exactly what City Air is. There is so much embedded within the transient lead vocals, lyrics that hold all the emotion there is, and the ever-so-soft synth lying underneath.
I feel almost repetitive by saying that these guys are ones to keep your eye on, or that their music is special, but when I started at the Sniffer, Kevin gave me some advice that’s really stuck with me; and that’s to only write about music that grabs all your attention, that you think is truly incredible, and that’s exactly what I’m doing. So, for music that grabs all of you, draws you in and leaves you wanting more, trust me and check out New Wolves.
