Ah, The Sound Sniffer’s blogging department is now open again today for some reason. Who knows why today is the day, what it means, where it will go or if it will ever happen again! But one thing is for sure; it’s fucking lovely signing into this WordPress account again after so long.
What has happened since last time, who knows, but we are still very much active here in London on the live scene and have discovered some truly magnificent artists in recent months, many of which will feature here, in this, our comeback post!
Nice to see you all again!

Big Huge New Circle – Toe to Toe
Rising beautifully organically from London’s grassroots scene, Big Huge New Circle are a group creating totally engaging music with such a mature sound; which is wild considering they are just a young group and only finding their place on the circuit. Toe to Toe, especially it’s wonderful ending, is a song we have been listening to a lot the past week — it all just makes you want move around in unison to it — proper good for listening to on the tube with loads of people skirting around in your eye-line and the headphones on, head rocking back and forth.

Alewya – Night Drive (Feat. Dagmawit Ameha)
Awewya is back and Night Drive is giving that chic, boujee vibe like that gorgeous Kavinsky soundtrack with Ryan Gosling driving around at night doing Ryan Gosling things. When I heard this track for the first time, there was no chance in hell I’d miss the radio DJ stating its name after it finished. Luckily, there was no ad break or anything after it played and I was able to take note and search for it later.
Been dancing around the room at stages to it since. Brilliant track – what the fuck!

Darkstates + Gluckskind – Single Cell
Good friend Simon Evans (Darkstates) performed a set for us not long ago in London — it was unsurprisingly quite the electronic music masterpiece and a very proud moment for The Sound Sniffer on the whole to host it. This song was played that night and was somewhat of a highlight within a set that delivered everything and more. Such cool production here and another track to add to the collection. Great work.

Daudi Matsiko – How Can I Love?
In the experimental emotional folk realm, it doesn’t get much better than Daudi Matsiko — we are blessed with some new releases from Daudi and the pick of the latest batch is How Can I Love? is so so good. I won’t come on here and say I haven’t been feeling quite stuck when it comes to finding love in London – holy moly – what an ordeal it is sometimes – this song has soothed some of my current woes though. So beautiful and important! Texture for the rainy days.

Iona Zajac – Salt
We could pick any track of the 11 on Iona Zajac‘s debut album ‘Bang‘ to insert into this lil article. I mean, this is such a premium offering and was gutted to miss Iona playing at The Social in London the other night, it was on the list but my life brought be elsewhere that eve. I may have missed the show but certainly spotted the music and thankfully so, it’s firmly on the rotation and I don’t think it was stop being played for quite a while. I absolutely love SALT and the drone at the end as it whips into a mush of angst. 10 out of 10.

Dominie Hooper – Soft Reckoning
Dominie Hooper played Moth Club last week and like Iona above, I was a gutted to miss it. Dominie played a Sound Sniffer show in the summer, in a time when I was going through a bumpy bit, and also when Download Festival was on in Finsbury Park which I’m pretty sure a crush of people must have bundled their way into the gig mid-way through and likely not a folk-y bunch.
I didn’t realise that Download Festival was on. I didn’t realise much at that time. But putting Dominie Hooper into the right conditions to play a gig was something important and I definitely didn’t do that in June, regrettably. The music is so special, this album is special and I bet the full band is also special.
Here’s an example of the album and a track I love!
