Bedroom produced athmospheric chill here from the UK’s new exciting twenty year old one man band Hugo Cottu. In an age where any man and his dog can hash up beats from the comfort of their own home using the incredible resources at our disposal – it makes it very difficult for us bloggers to filter through the releases to find a total gem act like Cottu. This fella has hit the nail on the head with the meloncholic ‘For All I Know‘.
This tune tickles the ears from the outset with the soft bassline working with the high pitched synth lead to open the track off in a curious manner. The real selling point for me comes in a little later – those drone organ style chords that operate throughout are mystical & moody – Cottu’s vocals are on the ball too, brilliant self harmonies and range changes. Throw all these components together and you have a steller track that will surely see this talented young man stand out from the pack.
I’m sure many Mac DeMarco fans would dig this one – I hope this song gets the attention it deserves. I have been taking submissions properly here at The Sound Sniffer for about a week now and it’s safe to say that this is by far and away my favourite track to date. Crisp, clever and calculated, Cottu has created a wonderfully languid compostition.
For All I Know is the first single from this mecurial act which is taken from his up and coming debut EP Portfolio which I’m hotly anticipating now! Watch this space! My man here undoubtedly has a big future!!
