Lola Marsh – Echoes

Israel is our next stop for much respected Tel Aviv based alternative pop folk outfit Lola Marsh. The team are formed of the impressively silky lead vocalist Gil Landau and multi-intrumentalist Yael Shoshana Cohen. They gained their first piece of real traction back in 2014 when they played Primavera Sound as a five piece band. Ever since then they have released some heavily streamed singles such as Sirens and You’re Mine, which both smashed the million streams mark quickly. The latest single Echoes is certainly going to be well supported too. The track has a wild western feel to it with the shimmering guitars sounding like something from the Django Unchained soundtrack.

If Lana Del Ray and Django Django did a pop song I reckon it would sound fairly similar to this. Landau’s smooth vocal has a real quality to it, it’s deep and emotive. The chorus is one hell of a catchy hook. There is a depth to the subject matter of the lyrics with the band describing the subject matter as;

“Echoes is about that feeling you sometimes have when you want to disappear, but at the same time, want to be found. That scary beautiful moment just before falling asleep, when you are the most lonesome version of yourself. The video is for Maya”

Check out the wonderful Echoes below. The video accompanying the track was directed by Indy Hait. Released via Anova Records.

*The bands track ‘Something Stupid’ was featured on Better Call Saul last year. Big compliment that, as the soundtracks on breaking Bad and Saul are stupendous*
