YAWA are an Irish duo worth keeping a close eye on if you are into an indie sounds sculpted for a beach/holiday playlist. Their sound is caught somewhere in-between the bubbly and vibrant style of early Two Door Cinema Club and the bass driven sound of Mystery Jets. The talented duo consists of Harry and Tim, two lads who’s musical interests aligned while studying together at university in the capital. They’ve surely hit the mark with their latest single ‘Sitting Room‘.
The music video for this, their third single to date, has just been released and its clear to see that the duo are perhaps striding towards something special on the Irish music scene. Sitting Room is a catchy and punchy single that wouldn’t be out of place pumping out the speakers on a Wednesday night down at the Workman’s Club, Dublin (in Covid free times, of course). God, I’ve such good memories of that place – it was the home of all things indie when I was a student.
To go alongside the release of this one, the lads have recorded their first ever music video to accompany it – an impressive set of visuals shot against the natural backdrop of Co.Wicklow.
YAWA becomes the latest in a long line of wonderful Irish acts to find their way onto The Sound Sniffer of late; following on from The Nation Mourns, Caoivin, Moxie, Christian Cohle and Elkin. It’s abundantly clear that the island’s reputation as one of the world’s best exporters of music is in safe hands for the foreseeable. Have a blast of this single and see what you think and don’t be afraid to add it to your Spotify playlists.
I’m looking forward to seeing what the future holds for these two.
