Today I want to introduce you all to a Finnish duo that have been making waves in Berlin for the last few years, both separately and together. Tim Granbacka and Fritjof Brandt made the move to Germany and have absolutely left their mark on the music scene since, in a range of genres and areas too. They’re latest project being the creation of band Anonymous Depressed Dogs Club, which has the most chilled and laid back style I’ve hear in a while. They state that their music aims to ‘refill the void created by early 2010s indie-pop’, and with their mellow vocals, muffled instrumentals and just very spacey vibe, I would say they have done just this.
Their latest release Tuff is a complete amalgamation of indie flavours, a somehow nostalgic atmosphere, and all round an incredible vibe that reminds me both of late nights in strange bars, and my friend’s backyards in early summer. Within this release they have constructed a tune that on it’s own stands beautifully, an incredibly well put together song that understands all the concepts that make music great; the polarity of loud and softer noises, an easy simplicity that makes the song feel so natural and easy to listen to, creating an atmosphere in which the listener can really understand what is being said just by listening for a minute or so, and all the technical aspects of song creation and production that are equally done well with this one. As well as all this though, this song feels as though it is really the product of two guys who have been in the music industry for a while now, and who have lived all over and experienced all the differing styles and natures of musicians and the music they create, this song feels like it has come from two people that have been completely immersed in music for a while now – and that feels really special on it’s own.
So if this all sounds like a bit of you, head on over to your local streaming platform and give them a listen, I promise you won’t be disappointed.
