The Cinematic Orchestra – A Caged Bird/Imitations of Life

Twelve years!! It’s been twelve years since The Cinematic Orchestra released their last album ‘Ma Fleur’. I’ll never ever forget the opening track ‘To build a home’ with Patrick Watson – I blasted that tune out for my music practical exam when I was a young buck in school. That tune, alongside Watson’s ‘The Great Escape’ were my shoegazers back then and still. Truely artistic pieces.

This week sees the release of ‘To Believe‘ a new wonderful seven song work from this much loved British nu-jazz collective. The album was touted to be released back in 2017 but has only surfaced now. On first listen, the lads have completely nailed it. My pick from this album on first glance is ‘A Caged Bird/Imitations of Life’ featuring words from UK dub legend Roots Manuva. The song has a lovely oul marauding rhythm!
