Toby Johnson – Isla

Some nice oul folk just released here via Mahogany– a platform I have been following for many a year. This is Johnson‘s debut offering on the platform and I am certainly liking his charming vocals thus far. Isla is an uplifting little thing that made a good impression on us straight away. Johnson has already had the pleasure of performing with some of the UK’s most cherished up and coming acts, a lengthening list comprised of Lewis Watson, Mahalia and Isaac Gracie (a band I had the priveledge of witnessing live in a church out in Groningen, Holland, last January). These acts are the real deal and Johnson has been performing in this fine circle – he definitely is held in high esteem.

Today he has released his much anticipated first single on Mahogany with Isla, a love song of sorts as he remembers a fleeting love fondly. The song-writing is simplistic and touches vaguely on the dynamics that were lost at the end of the relationship, without going into the vivid details. I like the sound of this and just had to share it with you all. Johnson has a likeable tone and innocence within his music – it’s not over produced or forced, this is just right. Lyrically sound.

If you like what you are hearing, Toby has a headline gig at Forest Road Brewing Co in Hackney. Follow him on Facebook for details of that one.

Check out his Mahogany records release of Isla below. Enchanting.
