We have taken a break from the writing end of The Sound Sniffer this week for some much needed music free time. We return this afternoon to bring you a really fabulous piece from new Liverpool band Seatbelts. Their latest single Black Spring has been heavily played on my personal playlist over the last few weeks. I absolutely love it.
I’ve been asked by a couple of people recently ‘what my top three songs of all time are’. I have come to the conclusion that Edwyn Collins’s, ‘A Girl Like You‘, ranks in the top three. He has always been an inspirational figure for me growing up and his work with Orange Juice also ranks highly in my all time lists. The reason for this mini Edwyn Collins homage is that he is the man who has produced this superb record from Seatbelts. His journey back to music after two horrific strokes in 2005 is epic. Seeing him belt out some tunes on Ireland’s music show Other Voices a couple of years back really touched me. A legend.

Black Spring is a tune of high quality from Seatbelts. The vibe reminds me of the early works of Arcade Fire, especially the lead vocal and lush harmonies. My favourite little snippet from this single is the fleeting electronic wobble sound towards the end. Repeat, Repeat.
I have enjoyed sitting and listening to their songs this morning. Content Crush is another one from them that’s worth checking out.
Main artwork from the incredible Julia Smith! A wonderful new Liverpool band, you will agree.
