DAAY are a new outfit formed in 2019 by Alex Barty-King. They have just released their debut single ‘Mama’ – it is top notch.
A good song usually catches some sort of a hold on me after 20/25 seconds. I am a fiend for all things quirky and unique, this one fit the bill. After little over a minute of taking in ‘Mama’ for the first time, I was totally convinced. This isn’t your usual run of the mill indie effort – these guys are making really edgy and creative sounds together. Refreshing.
It’s not often the main attraction of a song is a collection of powerfully droning sax notes. These notes actually get harmonized towards the end of the track too – nice. I’d struggle to pinpoint a band making similar sounds, I’ve never heard much like it anyway. All my personal boxes are well and truly ticked here.

To make things even more edgy – DAAY‘s front-man, Barty-King, also plays with another band I love, Fake Turins. This just adds another layer of personal intrigue to this new band for me. I look forward to hearing more from DAAY. If this opening single is anything to go by, these lads will be highly sought after when the virus is gone.

I caught up with New York’s Ollie Chanin last week. He is fresh off a collaboration with Eminem. If you still have some reading left in your eyes, check that one here.
