Sniffer’s Top 5 Midweek Picks

Every Wednesday we pick the cream of the crop submissions from the trailing week. This week our list comprises of super tracks from the likes of Sienna Hamilton // Jelani Aryeh // Bad Pilot // Indigo Waves // David Baron & Donna Lewis

Five: David Baron & Donna Lewis – Running up That Hill

Kate Bush is a tricky woman to replicate at the best of times. Her vocal style was stand-alone. I have heard many budding artists try to recreate her music in their own style and fall flat on their faces. This cover from David Baron & Donna Lewis has really hit something great here in my opinion.

Baron’s delicate orchestral arrangement makes an eerily beautiful backdrop to showcase Lewis’s pure vocals. This is a top quality cover that is worthy of a spin in your lounge on a chilled out evening. Really nice.

Four: Sienna Hamilton – Grey

A voice so pure here from South East London singer Sienna Hamilton on her latest single ‘Grey’. I am not really a huge Neo-Soul fan at the best of times but her voice is absolutely sensational on this one. The husky tone is infectious and reminds my of Rokia Traore or Nneka in it’s angelic tone.

Her music has been picked up by the likes of mega blog ‘Earmilk’ among others and her stock has been on a consistent rise ever since she put her first song on SoundCloud back in ’16. Check her.

Three: Jelani Aryeh – Patagonia

17 year old Jelani Aryeh hails from San Diego and is making some really catchy modern tunes over there. He models his sound on Brockhampton, Frank Ocean and Odd Future. He garnered his first bits of traction from Reddit and has now develop a devout little collection of fans. He hopes to break through this year and I can see no reason why he would fail. His latest single broke down my lack of excitement towards modern day Hip-Hop and became a mainstay in my latest personal playlists. On the rise.

Two: Bad Pilot – The Queen Anne’s Revenge

Chirpy French electronic pop from Bad Pilot gets the nod here. This is not a new song but has been pushed onto our desk this week, I’m glad it has. The Parisian collective’s single The Queen Anne’s Revenge is one of those feel good, bouncing numbers that would definitely get a crowd swaying. It harbors shades of The Naked & Famous, Santigold and Passion Pit in it’s electronic construction. This just struck a match this week here at Sniffer.

One: Indigo Waves – Jerry Whiner

Utah four piece Indigo Waves hit top spot this week with their really catchy synth heavy indie track ‘Jerry Whiner’. I bounced all the way to the train station yesterday listening to this. It was always going to be number one on this list. Sunshine, Beer, good speakers and Indigo Waves – a stellar cast.
