Peter & Kerry – They Know God (But I Know You)

Some mad chilling deja-vu stuff, Peter & Kerry?, where’ve they been in the five years between 2012 and ‘18? I think they are back you know, banding around some deep vibes again.

This duo (Peter Lyons & Kerry Leadham) shot to my attention just over seven years ago with their quirky acoustic version of Amerie’s (annoying) 2011 hit ‘One Thing’. Their languished, seamless and effortless, vocal style really really appealed, they were not straining to hit notes or over complicating things, pure and simple effortless harmony. It was like a blast from the past when I stumbled upon a brand new Mohogany session with these two belting out their new one ‘They Know God (But I Know You)’. Harmony central, both have angelic voices when combined, the words of this tune are more purposeful and emotive than their 2011 cover of Amerie, but their quality is that they could make a DMX tune sound beautiful if they covered it. Good to have these back on the go – I’m curious to hear more.

Kidnap Kid -Birds that fly

Sheffield’s Matt Relton (Kidnap Kid) is a stalwart on the London Club scene. I suppose I better call him ‘Kidnap’, now since he has changed his name and all that jazz, but how and ever. ‘Birds that Fly’ is such a relaxing production from Relton and has been on our playlists for a good long while. It’s a tune for a cold winter evening as you shuffle home in the rat race at rush hour observing the thousands that pass you by in the melee. The synth keys are mesmerizing, Enjoy. Flake.

Hello Skinny – Watermelon Sun

0011473929_10Not quite sure what category to shove this thing into. Free jazz house? Completely interesting sounds here from ‘Hello Skinny’ the UK’s Jazz disco beat-maker. This piece is an altogether intriguing and thought provoking one, very unique and refreshing. A group of seasoned musicians coming together to produce a sound that is rich in texture and rhythm! Nice bass, percussion and horns moulded together into a captivating ten minutes of highbrow jazz dub disco – whats not to like? Get on it!

Premiere: El Bhasp – SomeOne Else

31391269_10215742667020633_406953210767474688_nMysterious Dublin based ‘El Bhasp’ is an up and coming producer with a slick repertoire ready for consumption. A superb multi-instrumentalist with an expert grasp on all things electronic, with his previous alias he was a frequently shared dubstep producer back in the boom – his remixes were endorsed by Alt-J at one point. As the years have gone, like many artists, he has sat on his work without fully investing in his own music. ‘Bhasp’s EP is set to drop in the coming few weeks and we are very excited here to hear what he comes out with. Such is his mysterious nature,he will be shadow releasing his stuff, so we should enjoy what we get without any promises of more. He has kindly let us premiere a taster from the EP called ‘Someone Else’. This is a chilled vibing number which certainly takes subtle influence from his bass heavy dubstep days. We hope you enjoy it, we are very hyped about this fella!
